Richard Edwards was installed as Master Cutler of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire on 4 October 2016. He has been a Member of the Company for 19 years.
He was educated at Sheffield Polytechnic and later gained a degree through the Open University. He joined the family business in the mid-1980s. This included Barworth Flockton along with Moss & Gamble and G & J Hall. The steel division was sold to Firth Rixson in the late 1990’s and, along with his brother Peter, he ran G & J Hall, one of the oldest tool manufacturing business in the city until November 2015, when it joined the OSL Group.
Over time Richard has been involved with the Objective 1 “Invest for Growth” scheme, and has been on the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce Council. He is a non-executive director of Sheffield Credit Union.
He has been Treasurer for Stephen Hill Methodist Church and the Sheffield Methodist District. He is an active School governor and is currently Vice Chair of Fir Vale Academy.
Richard is married to Julie, an ultrasound practitioner, they have two daughters, one working in London and the youngest at the University of Liverpool.
