BETTER LEARNERS BETTER WORKERS TEAM LEADS WORKSHOPS AT MALTBY GRAMMAR BUSINESS HUB OPENING – 13.05.25

The BLBW team were honoured to play a key role in the official opening of the newly refurbished Maltby Grammar Business Hub (former Maltby Grammar School).

As part of the celebration, BLBW delivered engaging workshops to students from four primary schools and three secondary schools. The day was made even more special through a partnership with Kitlocker, whose representatives, Brad and Jonny, inspired students with insights into the company’s operations and the diverse career opportunities available. Students were then challenged to design their own PE kits—a creative task they all embraced and enjoyed.

The event also welcomed some of the Cutlers’ Company Members, including members Rachel Abbott and Sarah Ward, and Freemen Graham Ward and Paula Carter. The opening presentation included a tribute to Past Master Dame Julie Kenny, the former Chair of Maltby Learning Trust. The £5.9 million Maltby Grammar Business Hub is the result of a successful Levelling Up Fund bid by Rotherham Council, which secured £4.5 million to revitalise the historic former Grammar School site. The project has transformed the building into a vibrant, multi-purpose facility designed to enhance education, employment, and enterprise opportunities across Maltby and the surrounding communities.

David Sutton, Chief Executive Officer of Maltby Learning Trust, reflected on the significance of the project:

“This is a fantastic legacy for the people of this area. We developed plans many years ago to breathe life back into the old Maltby Grammar School and revitalise the space to create a multi-functional building that would benefit students, businesses, and our local community.

We are extremely proud to have been able to deliver such a wonderful space. This is a transformative project that will serve as a cornerstone for nurturing talent and fostering entrepreneurship.

There are so many people to thank, not least Dame Julie Kenny, who worked tirelessly as our Chair of Trustees to help us secure the funding needed to bring this project to reality. It is right and fitting that a tribute to Julie will be in place at the business hub.”
