On Tuesday 14th January, the Better Learners Better Workers (BLBW) Ambassadors from Sheaf Training visited Straaltechniek UK Ltd in Sheffield. This opportunity gave the students valuable insights into the opportunities in engineering.
The students heard from Chairman of Straaltechniek UK Ltd and Freeman of The Company of Cutlers, Graham Ward, about the history of the Company and the products they design and manufacture.
Graham proudly talked about their Apprentice programme and how many young people have worked their way up through the Company achieving great things. Students had the opportunity to meet and hear from Reece, who was a former BLBW Ambassador himself whilst at Yewlands Academy. Reece has just completed his CNC Machining Apprenticeship with Straaltechniek.
The visit continued with a guided tour of the facility, where students saw some of the processes taking place such as laser cutting, fabrication, and welding. Then the students went on a tour of the works and witnessed some of the processes taking place such as Laser cutting, fabrication and welding. Students asked some great questions and were really enthusiastic especially when Graham showed them his classic car collection in the display room!
A big thank you to Graham and Andy for their support and hosting the visit.
