Burns Night Celebration 25th January 2022

25th January is traditionally celebrated in Scotland as Burns Night with the Pipes leading in the Haggis before the host declares “the Ode to the Haggis” and supper begins.  This year the Master and Mistress grabbed the opportunity to invite the City of Sheffield Pipe Band to play this key role at Burns Night at the Cutlers Hall.

The City of Sheffield Pipe Band were formed in 1911 and wear the City’s tartan.    This tartan was designed specifically for the City of Sheffield Pipe Band and no other band wears it.  The colours of the tartan represent the following;

Grey – the steel of Sheffield, Red– the furnaces of the steel foundries, Black – the coalfields of South Yorkshire, Blue and Green – these are the nominated colours of Sheffield.

The Master and Mistress would like to thank the Pipe Major, Terry Walters, Jim Oakes and Tom Otter for their wonderful playing.  The City of Sheffield Pipe Band are very active in the region so listen out for the distinctive swirl of the bagpipes.  For more information please visit their website at City of Sheffield Pipe Band .
