The installation ceremony at Cutlers’ Hall, where the Immediate Past Master, Philip Rodrigo, formally installed Professor Keith Jackson as the new Master Cutler. Senior Warden Ian Nicholls and Junior Warden Victoria Clarke Brown also received their badges and new roles as they support the Master Cutler throughout his tenure.
The Master Cutler outlined the key themes he will focus on during his year: International Trade, Education & Skills, and Healthcare. Following the installation, a Service of Thanksgiving was held at Sheffield Cathedral, after which guests returned to Cutlers’ Hall for a celebratory luncheon.
During the luncheon, the Immediate Past Master reflected on his year, expressing gratitude to the Lieutenancy, local dignitaries, Local Government, SYMCA, Emergency Services, Chambers of Commerce, universities, and especially to Company Members, Freemen, and Friends. Over the past year, he has visited many Freemen’s Companies and businesses, engaged with charitable organisations, and welcomed new Freemen to the Company. He was particularly honoured to attend the Better Learners Better Workers ambassador graduations and visit participating schools. He also supported local charities through donations made on behalf of the Cutlers’ Combined Charitable Trust.
In his address, the Master Cutler thanked the Vice Lord Lieutenant, High Sheriff, Mayors and Deputy Chief Constable of South Yorkshire for their attendance. He also acknowledged the support of the Chief Executive and Clerk to the Company, the Cutlers’ hospitality team, and highlighted the continued importance of the BLBW programme.
As Master Cutler, Professor Keith Jackson will continue to serve as the ‘Voice of Manufacturing’ championing local businesses and organisations across South Yorkshire and the wider region. This year’s Master Cutler’s Challenge will support the See It. Treat It. appeal of Weston Park Cancer Charity.
The Master Cutler closed his speech by thanking the Freemen and Friends, and their companies, for their ongoing contributions to excellence in manufacturing throughout South Yorkshire and beyond.
