MASTER CUTLER MEETS MAYOR OF BARNSLEY TO VISIT TOWN CENTRE REGENERATION – 26.11.24

On Tuesday 26th November, the Master Cutler along with the Chief Executive and Clerk visited Barnsley’s Town Hall and key landmarks at the invitation of the Mayor of Barnsley.

The group, including the Mayor & Glass Works Centre Manager, David Sinclair, toured the Town Hall before heading to The Glass Works shopping centre and market.

Barnsley has recently undergone a remarkable transformation, earning widespread recognition for its regeneration efforts. In September 2024, the historic Barnsley market was presented with the prestigious ‘Market Team of the Year’ award at the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA). More details on the award can be found here: Historic Barnsley Market Picks Up Prestigious National Award.

Barnsley Council began the redevelopment work of the town centre in 2016 with the creation of The Glass Works shopping and leisure destination which open in 2021. Over the years, significant improvements to the town centre have focussed on preserving Barnsley’s renowned market while fostering a vibrant and thriving environment for a modern market.

This visit highlighted Barnsley’s incredible transformation journey, celebrating its rich heritage while embracing a vibrant future. It stands as a testament to the town’s dedication to preserving its identity while evolving into a modern hub for the community.
