On Thursday 26th October 2023, the Master Cutler and Company were proud to host members of our affiliated Army Regiment, The Royal Yorkshire Regiment. The Cutlers Company hosted a ceremony presenting awards to impressive young soldiers and cadets. These individuals have consistently surpassed the expectations of their assigned roles and have made significant contributions not only to their comrades but also to their local communities.
The Master Cutler commenced the evening’s proceedings by delivering a speech, extending a warm welcome to all attendees at the Cutlers’ Hall. He also congratulated the Yorkshire Regiment for their recent Royal status in April of this year. Master Cutler went on to say, “I am delighted that the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire in the County of York, to give us our full title from 1624, is affiliated to the Regiment and that you retain such a strong regional presence.”
He conveyed his appreciation for their service now and in the future acknowledging that the “peace we enjoy was hard won by men and women like you” and that “we must never forget that freedom is not free”.
There were several awards present that evening, these included Corporal George Henderson (1 R YORKS), Private Sonny Ashworth (2 R YORKS), Private Roberto Brennan-Vaccaro (4 R YORKS) & Cadet Company Sergeant Major Evie Nock Humber and South Yorkshire Cadets.
As Remembrance Day approaches, the significance of the awards becomes even more profound. Their importance is magnified, serving as poignant reminders of the sacrifices made by those who served and continue to serve.
